A New Christmas Classic

I was struck recently by the complete absurdity of some Christmas decorations for sale in some stores. The one that really stood out was the light sculpture dolphin seen here.

Boto the Christmas Dolphin

After a bit more thought, I realized that we haven't had a good, new Christmas story in a long time (probably since Montgomery Wards gave us Rudolph) and that this would be a perfect opportunity to come up with a new Christmas classic.

First things first, the dolphin needed a name. As you can tell from the name of the site, I decided on Boto the Christmas Dolphin. However, since I can't be trusted to come up with a remotely decent story on my own, I figure I'd turn that part over to all of you.

Here's the way it will work, you can send your stories to me here, I will post the entries on this site, and a winner will be chosen by votes of the readers.

A few rules for the contest:

(1) The story must center around Boto the Christmas Dolphin.

(2) Both serious and not-so-serious entries are welcome.

(3) As these are to be holiday-themed stories, let's keep them fairly family/kid friendly, shall we?

(4) Entries must be your own work.

(5) Entries must be sent to me at this address by midnight of December 8th.

(6) The winner will be decided by popular vote.

(7) The winner will gain the people's ovation and fame forever.

Assuming we get plenty of entries, this should be lots of fun. Now, get writing and don't forget to tell all your friends to enter, too.

Update: Ok, since I didn't nag everyone enough and I didn't get many entries, I'm extending the deadline until Friday December 15th. That's an extra week. Please don't make me decide that I hate you all.
